Audio-Visual Materials Reviewed By The Australian Breastfeeding Association

The Australian Breastfeeding Association has for many years reviewed videos and other audio-visual materials related to breastfeeding and parenting. Breastfeeding counsellors and association members review materials in accordance with our guidelines and makes comments on type of material and content, accuracy of breastfeeding information, appeal and clarity, and suitability for Australian situations.

Our Review Categories

Our audio-visual review categories were defined by the Board of the Australian Breastfeeding Association in February 2000.

We have prepared a list of the audio-visual materials which have been classified as "Green" which is suitable for showing in any Australian Breastfeeding Association situation, consistent with ABA policy, no breaches of the WHO code, not funded, produced or sponsored by formula companies. A further coding is given as A:more than 50% breastfeeding content and B: less than 50% breastfeeding content. The exception to this is Gneetung Tukae (classified Yellow A). This video was produced by and for indigenous women and as such is unique and invaluable. Its yellow classification is due to a WHO code breach. NB. Reviews undertaken prior to February 2000 will have the old codes. The old coding largely parallels the current coding though it was not as comprehensive and flexible.
