World Breastfeeding Week: Support Breastfeeding for A Healthier Planet!

Event date:
Tuesday, August 4, 2020 - 12:00 to 13:30
Event Location:
Attadale Playgroup: 1 Carroll Drive, Bicton

It's World Breastfeeding Week! Join us for a celebration of your breastfeeding journey, whatever it looked like.

The international theme for WBW 2020 (1-7 August) is Support breastfeeding for a healthier planet. The focus is on the impact of infant feeding on the environment and the imperative to protect, promote and support breastfeeding for the health of the planet and its people. Breastmilk is a natural, renewable food that is produced and delivered to the consumer without pollution, packaging or waste. When we protect and support mothers and breastfeeding, we are also reducing the impact on our air, water and land, protecting our young ones and future generations.Breastfeeding is a sustainable way to feed our infants and young children and provides food security for them in emergencies and climate-related disasters.

Our meetings are a great opportunity to talk with other parents, especially those with older babies/kids who have been through it themselves.

For health reasons, we will not be offering a shared lunch, so please bring your own food (a reminder that our venue is nut-free). If you have a temperature or feeling unwell, we ask you to stay home. Hand sanitiser is at the venue and your attendance will be recorded in case we need to contact you.

:::: FAQs ::::

- I’m not breastfeeding, can I still come along?
We mostly focus on breastfeeding during our parenting discussion meetings, but non-breastfeeding parents are definitely welcome to attend. We support parents at all stages of their breastfeeding journey, from pregnancy to weaning.

- Can I bring my baby?
Yes, our meetings are baby-friendly and suitable for toddlers and older kids. There is indoor and outdoor play equipment, plus toilets and kitchen facilities.

- Is there a cost?
There is no cost to attend the meeting.

- Do I need to be a member?
No, non-members are welcome to come along to see what we’re about. If you’d like to keep coming to meetings, we ask that you become a member.

- Do I need to bring anything or register beforehand?
No, you can just turn up.

- Can I talk to someone about my breastfeeding?
You sure can! There’s always a trained breastfeeding counsellor at each meeting who can talk to you one-on-one.

- What if I’m running late?
We like to say that there’s no such thing as late when it comes to an ABA meeting. Arrive when you can, and leave when you need to. We understand that people have to work around nap times and other commitments, and our meetings are fairly informal anyway.

Got another question? Send us a message and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
