ANZ’s flexible work arrangements help us to attract and retain a diverse workforce, increase productivity, better meet customer needs and be more adaptable to change – all essential ingredients for long term business sustainability.

We understand our employees’ circumstances and priorities change over the course of their lives, whether it’s through study, travel, volunteer work, or perhaps caring for children, partners or parents. Through our flexibility policies, we have created a culture that enables our people – women and men - to contribute to ANZ’s success and manage their career, while balancing their family and life priorities.

Enabling women to fully contribute to the best of their ability is one of the core elements of ANZ's diversity strategy. Over the past few years there has been a significant focus on the attraction, development and retention of female talent at ANZ and providing them with support to succeed. ANZ was first accredited as a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace in 2007 and in 2011 was named an Employer of Choice for Women by Australia’s Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) – for the eighth year.

Some of the policies and initiatives that support our flexible work practices include:

    • Flexible leave policies, including career break, lifestyle leave, carer’s leave and pre-natal leave
    • Flexible work arrangements including job sharing, telecommuting and flexible working hours
    • 12 weeks paid parental leave assistance and the option to extend parental leave up to a maximum of 24 months
    • A $4000 allowance provided to returning parents to help them mange child care arrangements as they transition back to work
    • Diversity networking groups provide forums for employees to connect and share experiences, including parenting, gender and cultural networks
    • Access to free and confidential counselling for both work-related and personal problems through the Employee Assistance Program
