Adelaide Northern Suburbs Group, SA

Our group holds gatherings twice a month in the Modbury area - Friday mornings 10am-12noon.

We cover a large area of the Northern Adelaide suburbs, including the council areas of Tea Tree Gully, Campbelltown, Salisbury, Playford, Munno Para, Gawler and Barossa council areas.

Are you looking for a mothers group where you can meet other mums and participate in lots of interesting discussion on breastfeeding and parenting?

Our group is for everyone, whether you are pregnant, a new parent or an experienced mother of four.

Our venue is kid-friendly, with an enclosed space for toddlers to explore, and nearby café for refreshments for parents!

We avoid giving advice - just support, information and reassurance - as we recognise that every family is different and there is no right or wrong way. A qualified counsellor is there to answer any breastfeeding questions or concerns.

There is no need to RSVP, just turn up, even if you are running late! Look forward to seeing you there...

    Can I still come if...

I don't breastfeed? Yes, as long as you don't mind seeing other people breastfeed! We know that sometimes things don't work out as you might have wanted; we have members who are exclusively breastfeeding, pumping and bottle feeding, mixed feeding, and exclusively formula feeding. Everyone is welcome, no judgement, no competitions, no 'alpha parents' - we're all in this parenting thing together.

I haven't had my baby yet? Yes - attending meetings while you're pregnant is a great way to see other women breastfeeding and learn more about it. Many of us nowadays don't have much experience with babies until we have our own, so we need all the help we can get!

My child is not a baby any more? Yes, we are really lucky to have great venues with enough space for busy little people to play while their parents talk. Mums don't stop needing support once their child starts walking!

I already go to a mothers' group/playgroup? Yes. ABA meetings are more than a new parents' group, as the children are not all the same age - so you're not competing over who's child gets the next milestone first/sleeps longest/gains weight fastest... instead you get to see what's coming up from the children older than yours, and you can see how far your baby has come every time a newborn baby comes along. It really helps to get a broad perspective. ABA meetings are also more than a playgroup, as not only are you getting some socialising while your child gets to play, you can also get information about raising children and talk to a trained breastfeeding counsellor one-on-one if you want.

Everything is going fine? Yes! You don't need to be having problems with breastfeeding or anything else to come along and enjoy some interesting conversation and connect with local mums. Information and support is only part of why we come - our regular attendees keep coming along because ABA meetings are fun.

We have several qualified counsellors, Corinne, Jess, Chris, Rebecca and Melissa

Our trainee volunteers are: Lisa, Ashley and Janie

We look forward to welcoming you at a group catch up soon!

Can I still come to group activities if...

    ...everything is going fine?

Yes! You don't need to be having problems with breastfeeding or anything else to come along and enjoy some interesting conversation and connect with local mums. ...I already go to a mothers' group or playgroup?

Yes! ABA meet ups are more than a new parents' group. There are babies and children of different ages so there’s no competition over whose child reaches the next milestone first/sleeps longest/gains weight fastest.  Instead, you get to see children older than yours and find out what's ahead for you. You can also see how far your baby has come every time a newborn arrives. It really helps to get a broad perspective.

Our local group activities are also more than just a playgroup or a coffee catch up. You get to have a conversation with another adult while your child plays. You also have access to information about raising children and can chat to a breastfeeding counsellor or educator.

    ...I don't breastfeed?

You’re also welcome to check out our 'Info and Chat' sessions once or twice as a non-member. On-going participation is a benefit of becoming an ABA member.
