Despite the social stigma that can exist, breastfeeding beyond babyhood is perfectly normal. As long as a mother and her child are happy, there is no upper limit to breastfeeding duration. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and then for breastfeeding to continue alongside complementary foods for 2 years or beyond.
