Breastfeeding mothers often find that they need to use a medicine at some point in their breastfeeding journey. Sometimes this is a medicine related to breastfeeding itself, such as antibiotics for mastitis or a medicine to increase breastmilk supply. Other times it may be a medicine for something else related to the mothers physical or mental health. It is important for mothers to look after their own health but many are worried about how taking a medicine could impact on their breastfed baby. The good news is that there is almost always a way to choose safe medicines and treatments to care for mothers while continuing with breastfeeding.
Our guest speaker pharmacist, Lauren, will be talking about considerations for using common medicines during breastfeeding including medicines for:
-Pain relief
-Cold and flu symptoms
-Hayfever and allergy
-Constipation
-Contraception
-Increasing breastmilk supply
Bring your questions!
This Connect & Share session will involve getting together to participate in a facilitated group chat on a particular topic. Participants are encouraged to share their own experiences where they feel comfortable to do so. The session usually has around 15-20 minutes of formal discussion on the topic, followed by questions and social time.
There will be a Breastfeeding Counsellor present if you have an individual breastfeeding question or are needing some support with another breastfeeding question.
This is a very relaxed meet up – it’s fine if you come late/leave early – we know what it’s like to be operating on baby time!
Partners, expectant parents, friends, and children are welcome.
