ABA is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified applicants to join the Board of Directors. This is an exciting opportunity to help guide the strategic direction of our organisation and contribute to it's long-term success.
Skills and Experience
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and encourage anyone interested to apply. Applicants should be passionate supporters of ABA’s mission and vision.
The Board is particularly looking for people with skills in:
- Governance, law
- Advocacy and lobbying
- Marketing, public relations or communications
- Fundraising and philanthropy
- Human resources
- Volunteer-based, for purpose organisations

Applicants who would enhance the Board’s diversity are strongly encouraged to apply. We particularly welcome applicants identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse, parents under 24 or those living with a disability.
Role and commitment
ABA directors are unpaid in a voluntary role.
We have a vacancy for:
- one appointed director undertaking a two-year term and
- one casual vacancy appointment for an elected director position up to 26 November 2026.
As a non-executive director with ABA, you would be expected to:
- Align with the mission, vision, and values of ABA.
- Commit to four quarterly, full day, face-to-face Board meetings in Melbourne; as well as at least seven online meetings annually.
- Contribute to Board committees, generally in the evenings.
- Allow around 2-3 hours a week to review and prepare meeting papers in advance.
- Occasionally represent the Board at ABA events.
- Be accountable to the ABA community, staff, volunteers, members and wider community for the effectiveness, integrity and viability of the organisation.
