Welcome to our group

For the remainder of 2021 all face to face events have been suspended for our group. There are opportunities to connect online via the Zoom platform. Join us to meet new friends, chat with mothers who have 'been there', be the mother who has 'been there' for someone else and connect with trained breastfeeding volunteers. Please check our calendar for details.

Restrictions and venue availability mean we cannot offer local Breastfeeding Education ClassesOur popular Breastfeeding Education Live sessions continue to run each week. We encourage you to book in if you are pregnant and wanting to learn more about breastfeeding before your baby arrives.

Welcome to the Lower Hunter local Group.

We are a small yet enthusiatic group who get together regularly to share information and support each other as parents. In between times, we keep in touch via  Facebook

Our meetings allow parents to meet new friends, chat with other mothers who have 'been there' and connect with trained breastfeeding volunteers. We are a friendly and diverse group and look forward to meeting you at our next meeting.

With the current restrictions on in-person gatherings, many local groups across Australia are running virtual and online get-togethers. You can view our national calendar of events to find a full listing, and attend a group anywhere in Australia.

More about our group

The Lower Hunter Group

Our meetings:

We hold group meetings once a month - this meeting is a topic discussion followed by a social chat which is usually held on a Monday at the Metford Community Centre (check the bulletin for some exceptions)

Our topic meetings are discussions led by a breastfeeding counsellor or community educator on a particular topic, followed by a mum to mum cuppa and chat. We also often invite a local community members to come and share their knowledge on a topic.   Each meeting is focused on a particular topic, however, we encourage you to come along even if the topic is not currently relevant to you.  We always have plenty time to answer questions, point you in the right direction for information or simply just chat.  Our meetings are always suitable for older children including toddlers and we welcome them.

Babies, children, partners and other support people are always welcome. Mums from other neighbouring local groups or who are visiting the area are welcome to attend too.

Non ABA members are more than welcome to attend.

Please check the event tab or our save our   Bulletin for future reference.

We look forward to meeting you soon!

SMS Reminder?

Our group offers an opt - in sms reminder, if you think it would be helpful to recieve a reminder via SMS a few days before get togethers please contact us and we will add you to the list.

It's a great idea to come to a meeting or two before bub arrives. Come along to one of our meetings to meet other mums and learn more about ABA and how we can support you, it's also a great opportunity to ask questions and settle any nerves you may have.

You may also be interest in finding  out about our regional breastfeeding education classes. Our classes are very popular with expectant parents.

New baby?

We'd love to meet you and your baby. When you feel ready. come along to one of our meetings. Don't worry if you are late, we are parents too and understand.

If you need information, support or reassurance, chat to a trained breastfeeding counsellor on the Breastfeeding Helpline 1800 686 268 (availaible 24hours).  There is a lot of reliable research-based information here on the ABA website, trying typing a key word in the search in the top right corner of all pages or if you need helping finding information just ask.
