About the role
We have a vacancy for one Appointed Director. This is an unpaid, voluntary role and the successful applicant will take up their position for a two-year term from 26 November 2025.
We are seeking individuals with finance and accounting skills and experience who can also undertake the role of Honorary Treasurer in early to mid-2026.
As a non-executive Appointed Director, you would be expected to:
- Align with the mission, vision, and values of ABA
- Have the time to commit to:
- meet for four full day face-to-face Board meetings per year in Melbourne
- meet for 8–10 virtual evening Board meetings and relevant Board committee meetings annually, generally in the evenings
- spend at least 2-3 hours a week responding to Board correspondence
- represent the Board at ABA events where applicable.
- Be accountable to the ABA community, staff, volunteers and wider community for the effectiveness, integrity and viability of the organisation
- Have a strong understanding of governance roles, duties, obligations and responsibilities
- Be well organised and able to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to operate within a collaborative team environment.
Additional experience in one or more of the following areas would also be highly regarded:
- Knowledge of the Australian Breastfeeding Association or similar volunteer based for-purpose organisations
- Ability to be proactive and strategic, with a national focus
- Prior experience as a non-executive director
- Legal
- Risk management, compliance and for-purpose governance
- Human resources
- Public relations and communications
