The Training and Education team is looking for a volunteer editor to join the Talkabout team.
Key responsibilities
This role involves the oversight of the preparation and publishing of Talkabout which is a key communication channel within the Association and goes to all volunteers and paid staff.
The production of Talkabout is supported by a team of working group members. The team includes admin, sub-editor and assistant editor roles. They undertake tasks such as writing regular content, requesting content and providing deadline reminders to regular contributors, and uploading contributions to SharePoint. There is also a dedicated team of proof readers from the Proof Reading and Approval Working Group who proof read all content. The team also has the support of national training team staff members. Heather Miller uploads articles to the website and reviews the professional learning of all content and Susan Eldridge prepares and sends the distribution email.
The editor is responsible for ensuring the content of Talkabout meets ABA standards for its publications, includes content that is relevant and appropriate for the readers and meets our aims as a communication and professional development tool. The editor is also responsible for final proof reading, order of content, ensuring appropriate visual materials are used and checks final links and content for the distribution email.
Time commitment
The average time required for this role is up to 10 to 12 hours per month.
Requirements of the role
Qualifications
- Cert IV Breastfeeding Education or equivalent
Skills
- high level interpersonal and communication skills
- excellent organisational skills
- self-motivation and ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
- strong proof reading and or writing skills.
Experience
- Relevant experience in publishing/editing roles is desirable.
Location
This is a remote volunteer role that can be done from anywhere in Australia.
