Breastfeeding Stories … Breastfeeding a baby with a rare metabolic disorder
When baby Hudson was five days old, new mum Yolanda got a phone call that changed everything.
His heel prick test had detected a rare genetic condition called Phenylketonuria, or PKU.
In this episode, Jessica and Simone talk with Yolanda about navigating breastfeeding when your baby has PKU. The fear, the learning curve, and the support that made it possible.
Paediatric dietitian Erin Mullane also joins to explain what PKU means for feeding and nutrition, and how families can make breastfeeding work under complex circumstances.
