The University of Wollongong has been accredited as a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace since 2024

The University of Wollongong (UOW) is proud to be a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace, having successfully achieved accreditation with the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) in 2024. The accreditation highlights UOW’s commitment to building an inclusive work environment for parents and is recognition of the institution’s efforts in key areas such as physical spaces, resources and culture.
UOW supports the right to breastfeed in public and welcomes breastfeeding across all campuses. Parents are welcome to breastfeed their babies wherever they feel comfortable, and there are also rooms available on all campuses for those who prefer a private space for breastfeeding or expressing. In addition to dedicated spaces, UOW offers flexible work practices, including lactation breaks, rentable fridges to store expressed breastmilk and a variety of resources to support breastfeeding parents.
With over 60% of UOW staff self-identifying as a parent/carer or having other carer responsibilities, UOW offers a range of benefits to help staff with family responsibilities, including:
- Parental and Surrogacy Leave, Partner’s Leave and Carer’s Leave
- Flexible work arrangements, such as part-time work, working from home and job-sharing
- An active Parents and Carers Network
- Keeping in Touch program
- Childcare centre on campus
UOW remains committed to enhancing its services and resources to ensure that every family feels welcomed and supported in the UOW community.
