World Breastfeeding Week 2025

World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is celebrated worldwide annually from 1 to 7 August. This global campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and its many advantages.

WABA's theme for 2025 is, ‘Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create sustainable support systems’ because when communities come together to support breastfeeding mothers, the benefits last generations. Prioritising and supporting breastfeeding will reduce the growing climate impact of artificial infant feed supply chains. However, breastfeeding can be challenging when women are not fully supported.

WBW25 highlights the roles of actors in the warm chain of support for breastfeeding. By linking individuals and organisations at all levels: national, state, health, workplace and community, we create a breastfeeding-friendly workplace together.

Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) plays an important role in the warm chain of support for breastfeeding in Australia. For over 60 years, ABA has been a huge support for parents, especially for those without local family support, through our local peer support groups, our National Breastfeeding Helpline and LiveChat services, our online and community based workshops and classes.

In WBW25, we invite you to claim your link in the warm chain of breastfeeding support across health, community and workplace sectors, and celebrate your role in the continuum of care during the first 1000 days.

ABA is a key link in the warm chain of support

Kathleen

Kathleen, mum to 13-month-old Florence and 3 year old Leo, has made solid friendships at her local group and enjoys attending each month.

When I had my son and being a new mum, I was looking for things in the local area as I had a little bit of difficulty with breastfeeding. I joined a local meet up where I got support with breastfeeding and met some local mums.  I also joined ABA as a member and kept my knowledge up to date via their website.

Caterina

Caterina called ABA's National Breastfeeding Helpline for support with her first baby.

ABA has helped me numerous times as a first time Mum. My most recent call gave me a different perspective to what I thought might be the issue and some excellent tips to try, one of which has saved my sleep!

Lanita

Lanita's family all live in Thailand so after the birth of her two babies she found a second home at ABA.

I joined a local group and found my tribe through this group. This wasn’t just support, it was family away from family.

Keita

Keita turned to ABA's LiveChat when she had a newborn and was feeling overwhelmed.

Throughout my journey this chat saved me!! Especially in the early days where you feel like it's just you and your newborn in the whole entire world. So isolating but this provides comfort.
