Achieving Best Practice accreditation means your organisation has gone above and beyond the standard requirements for a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace
It’s the highest level of recognition we offer, awarded to workplaces that demonstrate exceptional commitment to supporting breastfeeding employees

All organisations begin with Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace accreditation, which ensures the essentials are in place, policies, a private space and staff support.
After two years of holding the accreditation, your organisation can apply for Best Practice, recognising your ongoing commitment and high standards of support.
FAQs about the Best Practice accreditation
All organisations begin their Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace accreditation journey by meeting the Standard Criteria, ensuring that essential workplace provisions, private spaces and supportive policies are in place.
After two years of becoming accredited, organisations become eligible to apply for Best Practice status. This step recognises workplaces that have:
Strengthened their lactation support policies and procedures
- Embedded inclusive, culturally safe practices
- Consistently promoted awareness and understanding among staff
- Regularly shared information with staff so everyone understands the support available
- Continued to improve their facilities, policies and support over time
Best Practice accreditation:
- Positions your organisation as a leader in workplace inclusion and wellbeing
- Enhances your reputation as an employer of choice
- Shows your commitment to creating a supportive environment for all parents
- Demonstrates continuous improvement in your workplace’s breastfeeding support
Once your organisation reaches the two-year milestone with the Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace accreditation, we’ll guide you through the Best Practice application process. This includes a review of your workplace policies, facilities and staff awareness initiatives to ensure they meet the higher benchmarks required.
Our Best Practice award shows workplaces have reached and maintained high BFW standards, including:
Enabling exceptional work options including lactation breaks and flexible work arrangements
Providing dedicated spaces to breastfeed and express that are private, welcoming and comfortable
Embedding a breastfeeding-friendly culture within the workplace.
